New Cross On Maundy Thursday the workmen arrived at St Andrew's with a large wooden cross, a hole was dug, concrete was poured in and the cross was set ready for the church's Good Friday reflections.
This cross will stand there as a sign of God's love for many years to come. Carved from English Oak it is both rugged and made to last. Xpedition Force During the first week of August we held our second holiday club: Xpedition Force during which for 5 evenings over 40 local children learnt about the last week of Jesus' life as we climbed higher and higher up Mount Ecksmouth. The evenings were a fun mix of singing, video, crafts, games, memory verses, drama all culminating in the Xpedition Force challenge in which a number of children ended up with cream all over their faces as they searched for a jelly baby!
Both children and the dedicated team of 16 leaders thoroughly enjoyed themselves, in the process learning how much God loves each one of us. Starting in October hopefully many of the children will return for our monthly club Camelot. Merseyfest St. Andrew's were fully involved in merseyfest having a fantastic team of young people from Bootle who joined us for a week working at Mill Farm Youth Club, Fairhaven and the M.A.C.E. As well as all the hard work the team put in transforming these areas, highlights included a family fun evening at Mill Farm with over 200 people and a fun evening at St. Andrew's incorporating Line dancing, a Gospel vocalist and a Quiz in which the hall was packed. Everyone in Tower Hill was impressed with the dedication of the merseyfest team and in particular the fact that they had payed to come and work in our community. Links with Kenya Following a trip by one of our members to Kenya in August. St. Andrew's has now formed a link with a church near Mombassa which was burnt down by Moslems and is seeking to be rebuilt. Following our own fire 4 years ago many of us can empathise with them. In addition one of our local schools Ravenscroft is forming a link with a Kenyan school. |
