The Archangel Gabriel

Gabriel is here announcing Jesus' impending birth to Mary, his mother. The text above Gabriel reads:

Blessed art thou among women.

The lilies by Gabriel right shoulder are a reminder of death and the pain that Mary would suffer at her son's execution.

The text around the edge of the window is taken from the book of Isaiah and reads:

A virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Emmanuel God with us.
