Tesco and the Everton Stadium

Knowsley Borough Council, Tesco PLC and Everton FC have been planning together to bring a multi-million pound development to Kirkby including a massive new supernmarket and football stadium.

St Chad's District Church Council is not convinced that this is all good news for residents in the town. The Church Council is itself made up of residents. For this reason it has been prepared to let the church be used to promote further discussion.

Richie Doyle recently wrote in the Liverpool Echo that a local councillor has written 'about turning "Kirkby ito a premier leisure and retail destination." Why not a premier destination to live? A premier destination to bring up a family? A premier destination to have your children educated? A premier destination to see out your retirement?' 26 January 2008.

The people of St Chad's are keen to encourage deeper consideration of the impact that these plans will have on local people's lives.
