After a knockout success last year, the King's Regiment TA Band returned to St Chad's this year for another Carol Concert. Over 250 people came to join in, completely outstripping expectations.
The band's music was beautiful and evoked a strong recollection of Christmas's real meaning. The audience were fantastic and joined in the singing even when they didn't know the words! The Rector, Revd Tim Stratford, contrasted the beauty of the music with the birth of the baby at the centre of it all - born in a garage and laid in a tool-box. 'This,' he said, 'was heaven touching earth!' The event was partly staged as a traditional Christmas event for the people of this town. It was also a fundraiser to help restore the town's broken memorial to those who have lost their lives in service to our country. The event has now fixed itself on the calendar and is bound to be repeated next year. If its popularity continues to grow it will no doubt be a sell out. Thanks to the band for giving of their time so generously. Thanks also to those who contributed in many practical ways and especially to Danny Farley who has made it what it has become.
